Data Use and Privacy

Windward Tree is a professional case workspace for organizing location, weather, tree, and report information. This notice explains the information the service handles and when outside services receive limited data needed to perform a requested function.

Use appropriate professional judgment. Enter case information only when you are authorized to do so. Avoid unnecessary personal identifiers, medical information, financial account information, or other material that the analysis does not require.

Information handled by Windward Tree

The service may store account and profile information; case names and locations; coordinates and elevation; incident dates and times; weather and storm-event results; tree and field observations; report selections; feedback; and administrative records needed to operate the account. Generated PDF reports are downloaded to the user and are not automatically retained as separate report files by Windward Tree.

Location and map services

When a user requests address lookup, elevation, weather, or map imagery, Windward Tree may send the entered address, coordinates, map area, or related request details to the service needed to complete that request. Current services may include the U.S. Census Geocoder, NJGIN, Esri, OpenStreetMap Nominatim and map tiles, Mapbox, the U.S. Geological Survey, Open-Meteo, NOAA/NCEI, and the Iowa Environmental Mesonet. Those services may also receive ordinary connection information such as the requesting IP address and browser metadata.

Hosting, authentication, and communications

Windward Tree uses Vercel for application hosting and server request processing, Supabase for authentication and secure database services, and Resend for application email delivery. Operational logs may contain request timing, route, status, and diagnostic identifiers. Secret credentials and full case records are not intentionally written to browser-visible diagnostic logs.

Browser and account security

The browser may retain an authenticated session and a limited local cache so the workspace can recover cleanly and remain responsive. Cloud storage is the authoritative record for signed-in accounts. Users should sign out after use, protect their device account, keep browsers updated, and avoid sensitive work on shared or untrusted computers.

Use, retention, and access

Information is used to provide and secure the service, perform user-requested retrievals and calculations, generate reports, support users, and maintain reliable operations. Access is limited through account controls and database policies. Retention may be governed by account status, operational backup schedules, legal obligations, and the user’s professional recordkeeping responsibilities.
